     Hartselle pitcher Jada Hayes hurled a three-hitter and a four-hitter, giving up one run in each game as the Tigers bounced back to defeat Moody twice – 3-1 and 2-1 –in the finals to capture the Class 5A State Softball Championship Friday night at Montgomery’s Lagoon Park.

      After falling to Moody 1-0 in eight innings in the finals of the winners’ bracket, the Tigers edged Curry 1-0 to earn a berth in the finals.

      Hayes, named the tournament MVP, pitched all five Hartselle wins in the tournament, including a one-hitter in a 2-0 eight-inning victory over Valley in the opener. She fanned 18 Ram batters in the contest.

      In game one of the finals, she struck out four and overcame five walks. Hope Cain and Ashley Boggs each had a hit and scored a run and Taylor Wascavage and Hannah Jenkins had a hit apiece. Ali Forth drove in a run.

      Jenkins stepped into the limelight in the second game, driving in both Hartselle runs with a homer. Boggs and Wascavage each had a hit in game two.

      Hayes again overcame five walks and struck out two.

      Alexis Moore and Payton Swisher had two hits each for Moody in game two and Ashton Clem, Victoria Lewis and Bailey Adams each had a hit in game one of the finals.
