Senior Sydney Moss scored 26 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and added three assists, three steals and three blocked shots to lead Boone County (19-1) to a 3-0 record and the championship of the Girls’ Round-Robin event in the 2012 Toyoya Classic.
Moss was joined in the double figure scoring column by classmate Lydia Nash with 14 points and in the double figure rebound column by another classmate, Zuri Hill, who led all rebounders with 15, nine on the offensive board. Sophomore Audriana Christopher was the only Scott County player in double figures with 14 points. Christopher and classmate Iman Guy each had eight rebounds to pace the Cardinals (10-13).
Boone County led by as many as 24 points late in the game, having led 14-11 after one period and 30-18 at the half. The Rebels outscored Scott County, 14-11, in the third period to take a 44-29 lead after three and were never challenged.
The Rebels shot 43% from the floor on 20 of 47 to a chilly 24% on 13-55 for the Cardinals. Each team turned the ball over 14 times with the Rebel miscues leading to nine Scott County points and Boone County scoring 12 points off the Cardinal mistakes.
Boone County won the battle of the boards, 57-38.
Next up for Scott County is a visit from the state’s #1 team, Marion County on Tuesday while Boone County will travel to regional rival Simon Kenton that same evening.
