Junior post player Cheyenne Madden posted her third consecutive double-double to lead the Tigers of Clay County past the Flyers of Franklin County, 47-29, in the third and final game for each team in the Girls Round-Robin event of the 2012 Toyota Classic.
Madden, who paced the Tigers to a 2-1 record and second place in the Toyota Classic, delivered 22 points and 11 rebounds against the Flyers enroute to averaging 20.7 points and 13.7 rebounds for the weekend. Madden’s eighth-grade teammate, guard TaLaura Mathis added 12 points to the Tigers game total, hitting four of nine three point attempts.
Junior Raven Timmons led Franklin County in the game with 16 points, the only Flyer to hit the twin figure mark. Timmons averaged 13.3 points in the three games of theToyota Classic as the Flyers finished the event at 1-2.
The Tigers led, 10-5, after one period and 17-11 at the half. Franklin County came back to lead briefly midway through the third quarter but Mathis’s three for three long range shooting in the period put Clay County back ahead, 32-25, after three periods.
Clay County (18-3)will resume the schedule on Monday, January 23 against Bell County while the Flyers (14-7) return to Region 11 play on Friday, January 27 against Western Hills.
