Landen Young led all scorers with 20 points and Jay Johnson chipped in with 16 as Woodford County used a 22-12 third quarter to top Western, 55-51, and move into the semi-finals of the 2012 Toyota Classic.
Woodford led, 14-12, after the first quarter and 25-22 at the half. The third quarter explosion by the Yellow Jackets put them up, 47-34, after three quarters but a frantic Warriors comeback in the final period cut the gap to the final, four-point margin.
Charles Jacobs paced the Warriors with 14 points and Chris McGraw added a dozen. David Greenwell was the third Yellow Jacket in twin figures with 11 points and led Woodford County with seven rebounds. Kenneth Wachira led Western with seven rebounds.
Woodford County outshot Western from the field, 42.3% - 40%. The Warriors had a one rebound edge over the Yellow Jackets, 33-32. Each team turned the ball over more than 20 times – Woodford’s 21 turnovers leading to 16 Western points while Western’s twenty miscues led to 16 Jackets points.
