Home » Boys' Soccer NewsPair of penalty kicks beats CallawayJanuary 22, 2012 Ridgeland Titan SoccerThe Titans knew what had to be done, win a road game against last season’s district champions. The game would be tough with neither side being able to punch in a goal in the first half. “It took us most of the first half to settle into our game,” said Coach Winship. “Callaway has some very gifted players.” Senior forward Corey Carter scored the game’s first goal for the Chargers in the 50th minute. From there, the Titans would come alive and press the attack. After a handball violation in the box, senior forward Martin Cobb would step to the mark and bury a penalty shot tying the game. Just ten minutes later, Cobb would do it again. This time Cobb sent a low ball into the bottom corner for the 2-1 lead. With just over five minutes to play, freshman forward Oscar Rivera threw a ball into play. Senior fullback Caylon McCulloch sent a crossing pass behind the defense where junior Deonte Buckner slammed the ball into the net. Senior keeper Alexis Alonso Gaytan had three saves running his record to 8-4-4 on the season. The Titans would play game two on Friday.
