Tigers Advance With Opening Win Vs. Bucklin
January 26, 2011By Mitchell Pittman of Marceline High School
On Tuesday, January 25th, the Marceline Tigers traveled south to Keytesville, Missouri for the first round of the Keytesville Invitational Tournament. The boys were set to battle the Bucklin Bulldogs in what looked to be no ordinary 2 vs 7 seed game. The game started slow with both teams trading early buckets. The Tigers, clicking on offense, still allowed Bucklin to hang around to end Quarter 1. Score: Marceline 22, Bucklin: 18. The second quarter was more of the same as the Tigers began to attack a distinct height advantage in the post and capitolized on key turnovers to take the lead going into halftime 40-30. Coming out of the locker room, the Tigers took control of the game and never looked back. Winning the 3rd quarter, 19-5, the Tigers took a huge lead and coasted through the end of the game. Final score: Marceline 69, Bucklin 45.
Leading the charge for the Tigers in this game were Brett McGlothlin with an astounding 26 points. Dylan Clubine pitched in 10 and Brennen Floray with 8. Tim Jordan added 7 while Nico Batye and Chase Hilsabeck each had 6. Brian Husky also had 5.
The Tigers now look to head back to Keytesville Thursday night to avenge a loss to the New Franklin Bulldogs, a loss that still stings the Tigers to this day. Tip time is set for 6:00. Come out and support your Tigers as they try to take one step closer to winning a championship.
