Home » Boys' Basketball NewsTigers Fall Just Short of Hoops ChampionshipJanuary 10, 2011 By Mitchell Pittman of Marceline High SchoolOn Saturday, January 8th, the Marceline Tigers took the floor in front of their home crowd against the Glasgow Yellowjackets. It was a packed Marceline Tiger field house as the two teams tipped off in the Tigers Hoops Classic championship game. The Tigers struggled early on and found themselves down 22-11 at the end of the first quarter, no thanks to Glasgow's hot start. They narrowly closed the gap before the halftime buzzer. Halftime score: Glasgow 31, Marceline 22. The Tigers struck fire in the second half, cutting the Glasgow gap and eventually taking the lead at the end of 3. Marceline 39, Glasgow 35. Both teams knew they were in for a fight going into the 4th and final quarter of play. Teams traded buckets through much of the 4th until Glasgow's 3-ball proved too much for the Tigers. As the final seconds ticked, the Tigers were forced to foul, giving the Jackets free points and widening the gap. Final score: Glasgow 56, Marceline 51. Offensively, the Tigers were led by Dylan Clubine with 15 points. Brett McGlothlin pitched in 12 of his own and Chase Hilsabeck added 9. Nico Batye and Brennen Floray each had 7. The Tigers will now travel to Fayette, Missouri on Monday for another tough conference battle, looking to push their record above .500 and prove their legitimacy in the Lewis & Clark Conference.
