Brogdon ready to bust loose in MAVTV Pro Stocker
TOPEKA, Kan. (May 16) – MAVTV Pontiac driver Rodger Brogdon knows there's only one way out of slump -- with a whole lot of hard work.
That's what Brogdon and his team have been doing lately, trying to improve the performance of their black and blue Pro Stock car. To that end, Brogdon tested in St. Louis this week in preparation for this weekend's Dollar General NHRA Summer Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka.
"That's the only way to do it: Just go run the car, over and over and over and over," Brogdon said. "We got to St. Louis on Monday, got everything ready and started making laps early Tuesday morning. We went at it hard for two full days."
Brogdon has uncharacteristically struggled in 2012, with a best result of a semifinal appearance in Las Vegas. The former Sportsman winner is ninth in the Pro Stock standings, though he has failed to get past the first round in the last five races.
"We're hopeful we'll get better, starting right now," Brogdon said. "We made some improvements at the test and I'm happy with the way things are going. Only time will tell. We'll know when qualifying starts but it's promising so far."
Brogdon doesn't have far to look for past success in Kansas as he reached the semifinals at this event only a year ago.
"I did well at Heartland Park in my Sportsman days, too," Brogdon said. "It'll be hot and miserable, but in the past I've done well when it's bad. Hopefully, we can break out of this slump right now."
Weather conditions are expected to be typical of Topeka in May, with temperatures in the 80s and high humidity. But that's nothing new for the Texas native.
"I might have a little bit of advantage on them," Brogdon said with a chuckle. "I am used to it, for sure. It's bad at home already. I probably am a little more used to it than most people."
