Mike Edwards drove his Penhall/K&N/Interstate Batteries Pontiac to the No. 5 spot with a run of 6.635 at 208.71.

"We made some solide laps in qualifying in our Penhall/K&N/Interstate Batteries Pontiac, but just never made a run we were extremely happy about."
Elimination Notes

From the No. 5 position, Mike Edwards opened competition in his Penhall/K&N/Insterstate Batteries Pontiac against Larry Morgan. With a near perfect .004-second light and best run of the weekend 6.631, Edwards pulled away for the opening frame win.
 
In the second round, Edwards squared off with Ronnie Humphrey. Edwards trailed at the start and never could close the gap the 1,320 feet length, ending his weekend.

"We feel we are close to breaking back into the winner's circle," Edwards said. "We need to have a little luck come back to our side and hopefully we will turn the corner in Topeka."
