March 3, 2012
By Gary Andrews of Three Rivers Conference

Whitko was playing Heritage in the semi finals of the Norwell sectional Friday and with three minutes to go, looked as though they were playing their last game of the season. The Wildcats were down 12 points and made a miracle comeback to knock off Heritage 66-65.

The two teams struggled in the first half, with Whitko only being able to muster one point in the last four minutes of the half and trailed 28-25.

Behind Irwin the Wildcats battled and led 43-42 with a quarter to go.

After Kolton Krull hit a bucket to start the fourth quarter, things went south for the Wildcats. Whitko went cold, while Heritage went on a hot streak and led the Wildcats 62-50 with 3:00 left to go. It was do or die for the Wildcats and Logan Irwin knew it. Irwin erupted for 8 straight points to make it 64-60. Irwin then went to the line for free throws, hitting the first, but missing the second. Stephen Bennett grabbed the rebound and put it back in to make it 64-63 with .40 to go. With each team fouling the score was tied at 65 with .29 seconds remaining.

Whitko would have the opportunity to play for the final shot and the win, when Heritage made the fatal mistake. With 2.7 seconds left Irwin drove down the middle and was fouled.Irwin missed the first shot, but connected on the second to put Whitko up 66-65. A last second desperation shot by Heritage failed and the Wildcats had pulled off the unbelievable comeback.

Logan Irwin led the Wildcats with 39 points. Trey Weber had 11, Keaton Irwin 5, Alex Stoddard and Stephen Bennett added 4 points each.
