Home » Boys' Basketball NewsRochester Pulls Off Upset Over WinamacMarch 3, 2012 By Gary Andrews of Three Rivers ConferenceThe Rochester Zebra basketball team took the early lead and led at all four stops to upset Winamac in the sectional semi finals Friday 50-36. The Zebras, just 5-16 believed in the old saying ''all records are even starting in the tourney'' and jumped on Winamac early and led 10-7 at the end of one and 18-12 at the half. Using a balanced scoring attack led by Zac Schoen the Zebras continued to play their game, putting three players in double figures and five in the scoring column. Rochester held on in the third quarter as Winamac out scored the Zebras 12-11 and the the Zebras led 29-24 with a quarter to go. With the offense staying hot and the Zebras hitting free throws the Zebras built the lead to 17 points and pulled off the upset 50-36. Leading Rochester was Zac Schoen with 16 points. Jonathon O'Dell had 12, Seth Corn 10, Luke Cannedy 7 and Aaron Stuart 5. Rochester plays Hebron Saturday in the championship.
