Norse Roll In Sectional Opener Over Warriors

February 28, 2012
By Gary Andrews of Three Rivers Conference

If anyone had any doubt if Northfield was looking past North Miami to meet Oak Hill Friday night, the Norse erased that thought after the first four minutes of the game, dominating the Warriors 73-34.

North Miami started the scoring on an Ethan Beech jumper before Ryan Givens and Ryan Keaffaber hit layups to give the Norse a 4-2 lead. Beech would hit again to knot the score. After Austin See hit a three pointer to give the Warriors a 7-6 lead, the Norse began to take over. Givens hit another layup to give the Norse the lead and start a 12-0 run to end the quarter. During the run Keaffaber and Collin Dawes hit back to back three pointers to make it 14-7 and ended the quarter with buckets from Keaffaber and Givens to make it 18-7.

The Norse run would not stop at the first quarter buzzer. Northfield would score the first 7 points of the second quarter behind Dawes and Keaffaber to open a 25-7 lead. Paul Hayes would stop that run on a layup before the Norse started their next run, this time 7-0. Chad Glasscock scored 5 of the 7 points, including a three pointer to make it 32-9 with 1:55 to go. North Miami would score the last four points of the quarter, all by Hayes to make it 32-13 at the half.

Chad Glasscock would hit a three to get the third quarter started and then create a steal for a layup to make it 37-13. After a Warrior turn over Keaffaber would connect on a three to push the lead to 40-13. Ty Musselman would then hit a layup for the Warriors when the Norse went on an 8-0 run behind Glasscock, Givens and Keaffaber to make it 48-15 with 3:26 to go. Alex Borse and Paul Hayes hit, followed by two Ty Musselman free throws to make it 48-21. At 52-23 Ryan Keaffaber hit an acrobatic three pointer at the buzzer to give Northfield a 55-23 lead with a quarter to go.

Hayes hit to start the fourth quarter before the Norse would go on one more run. Glasscock hit two free throws to start a 9-0 run that ended with a Keaffaber layup with 4:35 remaining to make it 64-25. Jared Richardson hit a three pointer to make it 64-28 when Northfield scored the next 5 points that ended with a Jon Richardson layup. Tanner Wilcox would score the final bucket of the game, as the Norse dominated 73-34.
