Only Juniors are allowed to submit essays. The local winners receive a plaque, and then go on the regional level consisting of Nelson County, Bulitt County, and Hardin County. The winner receives a $2,500 scholarship payable to the university of their choice. This year's topic was, "How Can I Make My Friends Realize Their Worth?" The essay must be no less than 700 words and no more than 800 words-- not as much as it sounds like. This year's deadline for the first contest of 2013 was last Friday.
