FFA Week :)
February 18, 2013By Ashley Cornelius of Thomas Nelson HS
As you might know, next week, February 16 - February 21, is FFA Week. FFA sponsor, John Hammond, has planned an activity each day. He is determined to make FFA Week fun for his FFA members.
On Sunday, FFA members are going to go to church for the eleven o'clock service at Mills Creek Church. Afterwards, Mr. Hammond is taking everyone to Hometown Pizza. He even mentioned about a possibility for an appetizer for everyone! Make sure you come to that, FFA members.
On Monday, it is Food Check-out Day. That day is where all the FFA members are going to Kroger or the IGA in New Haven and hand out information to shoppers about nutrition and to show them that our nation spends less on food than any other country. It also gives out recipes. FFA members can wear an FFA shirt to promote FFA while handing out information to the young and elderly. This event will be right after school.
Tuesday, FFA is shooting a commercial for their student organization after school. Mr. Hammond is thinking about serving food. The executive team and Mr. Hammond have some cool ideas and are excited to film it. They are filming it to promote middle schoolers to join when they get to highschool. It also might appear in Tuesday Newsday for the whole school to see!
On Wednesday, FFA members and Mr. Hammond are going to the movies. It's only $6 to get into the movie and then you have food and drink. This will be a carpooling event where executive team drivers will take FFA members. Beforehand, they’re going to Fazolis right after school and leaving for the movies at 5. It sounds like a fun opportunity.
Thursday, Mr. Hammond is planning a cookout right after school. There's not much information on this event, but you should know that his last cookouts were successful as ever.
Lastly, on Friday, FFA members will go to Alpine Ice Arena. There might be a bus to go, but if not, then they will carpool. (More bus information will come later in the week) Its is $9 for three hours of ice skating. The skating is at 6 and everyone will be back around 9-9:30, so they plan on leaving around 4:30. Even if you don't have a clue how to skate, you should go!
It sounds like Mr. Hammond has a fun week planned. As an FFA member, I am pretty excited about it and plan on going to most of these events. If you are not an FFA member, you should join because Mr. Hammond tries to make it fun for everyone. It's $15 to join, and if you can't find that kind of money, Mr. Hammond would be glad to talk to you about it. A requirement is that you have to be in an Agriscience class. Not that much for all this fun! FFA Week is going to be extremely fun for all the FFA members participating and Mr. Hammond. GO FFA GENERALS!
