  • The Armistice was signed during the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 – November 11, 1918.
  • It became a national holiday in 1938
  • The Holiday started as “Armistice Day” on November 11, 1919 as a way to honor the veterans of WWI
  • President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the bill in 1954 to change its name to Veterans’ Day
  • 21.8 million  veterans live in the US
  • There are 1.6 million female veterans
  • Veterans are more likely to vote
  • The postal service is the largest employer of veterans
  • California, Florida, and Texas each have over 2 million veterans
  • Between 1971 and 1977, Veterans Day was celebrated on the 4th Monday in October
  • 9 million veterans are over the age of 65
  • 1.7 million veterans are younger than 35
  • 26% of veterans are disabled and living in poverty
