Bowling at TNHS
Bowling is a recreational sport played with a bowling ball used to knock over pins of varying numbers and sizes depending on the type of game played.
The USBC sets the date for the first published rules on bowling back to 1895; however the roots of bowling go back to ancient Egypt.
One bowling game consists of ten frames with a minimum score of zero and a maximum score of 300. Each frame consists of two chances to knock down ten pins. Instead of using points or runs, you use the pins to refer to points. Knocking down all the pins on the first ball is called a strike, which is denoted by an “x” on the score sheet. If it takes two shots to knock down all the pins it’s called a spare, which is denoted by a “/”. If you don’t knock down all the pins it’s referred to as an open frame, which the score is then counted by the total number of pins not standing. At the end of the game, the points are added for each player.
