Home » General NewsClass Of the Week: Mr. BennettSeptember 20, 2012 By Zoe Wilson of Thomas Nelson HS*Class of the Week* Mr. Bennett
Mr. Bennett teaches many things, such as Intro to Physics (Pre-AP), Chemistry, and a few others. When I was given the chance to interview him, I asked a few questions. What Things Will the Intro to Physics Class Cover? We’ll cover all aspects of physics, the forces of motion, electricity and magnetism, lights and optics, Newton’s 3 laws, we’ll also learn about astronomy, earth science, and intro to chemistry. How Long Have You Taught Science/Physics? “Teaching? About 24 years. This year is my 24th year.” He elaborated a bit more for me, explaining how he used to teach college but now teaches high school at a college level. Why Do You Think Science is Important? After a moment of deep thought, he responded “It affects everything we do in life, gaining insight to how nature works, and helps us to progress in society.” What Types of Experiments Will Your Chemistry Class Do? He explained how they’ll start with basic labs, going into the more popular labs such as the labs that use reactants to make another product. The colorful labs are quite popular too, but the most popular lab is the Hindenburg project where “you make hydrogen gas out of hydrochloric acid and zinc metal and capture the gas in the balloon and blow it up.” Mr. Bennett’s class is quite a fun experience and I hope, one day, you’ll also get to enjoy his class.
