Information on FFA
September 5, 2012Thomas Nelson HS
The National FFA Organization is a student organization that is a part of agricultural education. We interviewed the sponsor of FFA, Mr. John Hammond, and found out a lot about FFA and Mr. Hammond himself. He is a laid back, determined person and is going to make FFA fun for everyone that joins.
To get involved in FFA, you have to be in an agriculture class, pay $15 FFA dues, and attend FFA events. He has already begun the FFA club with a summer meeting at My Old Kentucky Home park in early August and FFA camp. Students are beginning to plan events.
When we asked when he was going to have meetings, Mr. Hammond replied with “Afterschool and before athletic events, the next one being held on September 11 with Thomas Nelson’s football team playing against Nelson County High School.”
When asked why it’s beneficial to join FFA, Mr. Hammond answered, “Career success, personal growth, premier leadership, you make friends, and you share fellowship.” It follows you throughout your life as well, giving you skills such as “leadership, team building, public speaking, and organization.”
We learned that FFA is more than just a club. It is an organization that can help you figure out your career and help build your character so you can become a better person than you are today. Everybody should join because it’s beneficial and lots of fun. Get involved because you won’t regret it! GO GENERALS!
