An opportunistic Adrian High School girls soccer team pulled out a big road victory on Thursday.

Senior captain and sweeper Katie Lanczki had two goals and an assist and Taly Cavazos added a goal to lead the Maples to a 3-2 victory over Dexter in a Southeastern Conference contest. The win was the first for Adrian over Dexter in awhile , according to Maples coach Ted Hanosh.

"I'm extremely proud of their effort and happy for our girls," Hanosh said. "It's been a very long time since we've beat Dexter on the girls side."

Adrian jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as Lanczki scored on a free kick and then assisted on Cavazos' goal. The Maples had a 2-1 advantage at halftime.

Lanczki scored on a free kick midway through the second half before Adrian held on for the win.

"We were opportunistic and struck when the iron was hot," Hanosh said.

Adrian will face Chelsea in a make-up game today.
