The Columbia State Chargers got great pitching from Tyler Stewart against host Georgia Perimeter Saturday improving to 2-0 in the tournament after a 5-0 win. Stewart (7-1) struck out 7, allowed only 6 hits in his complete game shutout.

CSCC’s bats got in groove in the top of the 4th inning. Josh Wilson, with Sam Few and Desi Ammons on base, doubles scoring the two runners. The next batter Riley Delgado smacks an RBI single plating Wilson. The Chargers went up 3-0. Tyler Fullerton, with the HOT bat in the tournament connects on a single scoring Delgado giving CSCC a 4-0 lead as they sent 9 hitters to the plate in the fourth.

In the fifth Columbia State (43-11) adds to their lead. Wes Neiderland singles in the top of the 5th. Tyler Fullerton HBP and with two outs Desi Ammons connects to drive in Neiderland putting the Chargers up 5-0.

Columbia State now in the drivers seat will wait to see who’ll they’ll play Sunday at noon est. Darton College and Georgia Perimeter will meet in the tournament’s final elimination game later Saturday afternoon.

CSCC head coach Mike Corn, in his 4th year, has been instrumental in reloading the Chargers program. Coach Corn has Columbia State baseball back to where it was under coaches Dave Hall and Jim Painter. In this day of parity across the college level with D1 schools going after a lot of the same players you have to salute what coach Corn has accomplished.

The Columbia State baseball program IS a program everyone should be aware of. It is back and it has become THE team to beat in the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association!
