The visiting Ooltewah Owls took an early lead in Friday’s quarterfinal football playoff game against Columbia, but the Lions managed to put up 17 second quarter points to overcome an Owls two touchdown lead.
Columbia got on the board with 5:55 to play in the first half. Chris Martin scored the first points on a 5-yard run, and Matthew Markham passed to Dre Hall over the middle for a 57-yard touchdown.
With :55 remaining and the ball on the Owls 16 quarterback Brody Binder was sacked for a 6-yard loss, the Owls called time out. On the next play, Dre Hall intercepted Binder at the Ooltewah 25, that BIG play by the Lions “D” led to a Nolan Bone 42-yard field goal.
The Lions (11-2) got a 1-yard run on the first play of the fourth quarter from workhouse Chris Martin, who finished with 120 yards on 27 carries. The Lions come from behind to post an impressive 31-13 win.
Columbia will host Powell (12-1), a 31-10 winner over Tennessee next Friday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The lower bracket action Friday saw Northeast fall to Beech 44-43 and Jackson North Side squeak out a 45-42 win over Ridgeway. Beech will host Jackson North Side in a matchup of two unbeatens.
