Goodlettsville Is Very Good in World Series Opener!

The Tennessee & Southeast Regional Champion Goodlettsville Little League All-Stars made the Volunteer state proud Thursday night as they defeated Kearney, Nebraska 12-1 in their opening game at the 2012 Little League World Series.

Tennessee took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Cole Carter single scoring Brock Myers. Goodlettsville didn’t stop there. They added two more in the second frame off a Ryan Lyle two-run shot plating Lorenzo Butler. Tennessee led 3-0 until the fifth when they scored once again on their second round tripper by Brock Myers (3/4, HR, 3R, 2RBI) a two-run homer also scoring Collin O’Berry making the score 5-0.

Tennessee’s starting pitcher was dominate. Brock Myers went 4.1 innings striking out eight, allowing only one hit. At one point in the second and third innings Myers fanned five in a row and struck out the side in the third. Jake Rucker in relief gave up one-run on one hit, striking out one in his 1.2 innings on the mound.

Goodlettsville put the game out of reach in the sixth with a seven-run flurry highlighted by their third and fourth homers of the night. Jake Rucker a three-run homer which was followed by a solo-homer by Jayson Brown followed by back to back doubles by Myers & Luke Brown. The Brown hit scored Myers putting Tennessee up 12-0. Goodlettsville pounded out 13 hits.

Nebraska got their lone run in the bottom of the six. Nathan Murray scored on a Zane Schmidt 6-3 ground out.

Goodlettsville advances to play Petaluma, California Sunday at 1:00PM central
