East/Central Dist.Winner Gordon College Impressive at World Series!

The unbelievable season for the Highlanders of Gordon College (39-24) came to an end Friday in Grand Junction, Colorado.

San Jancinto of Texas (41-24) avenged an earlier loss to Gordon by winning 7-1 to earn the right to play #1 Iowa Western Community College in the 2012 NJCAA World Series Championship game Saturday night.

Gordon scattered ten hits, but failed to get "the timely" hit as they stranded ten runners on base.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when San Jancinto plated three runs.

Texas added two in the fifth and one in the sixth and seventh innings. Gordon's lone score came in the top of the ninth. Click here for stats.

San Jac will face Iowa Western (61-7) Saturday at 7:00mst.

The NJCAA's number one team in the country proved just why they have been on top in JUCO baseball for most of of the year. Iowa Western Community College (61-7) shutout the hot Highlander (39-24) bats of Gordon College 10-0 Thursday to take control of the 2012 NJCAA World Series.

The Reivers got four runs in the first inning off a grand slam by hurler Tanner Krietemeier. The Iowa pitcher went 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs and 2R scored. On the mound he tossed a five hit shutout, striking out six.

Gordon College Highlanders (3-1) 

Are the remaining players....Gordon will play San Jancinto at 7:00mst/9:00est Friday while #1 Iowa Western waits for the outcome.

Friday's winner will play the Reivers, in a single game, for the 2012 NJCAA World Series title on Saturday.

The Highlanders of Gordon College (3-0) is the only unbeaten team left in the 2012 NJCAA World Series. Georgia beat San Janinto 9-7Wednesday night to gain control of the tournament. 

Devin Bonin(1) led off the game with a solo homer, team's 6th and tied for first, to right-center and they were off and running.

The Highlanders scored six runs in the 4th inning to take an 8-1 lead San Jac was unable to overcome.

Gordon will now face Iowa Western Thursday in another 7:30MST game. Iowa is 3-1, second behind the Highlanders.

The 2012 East/Central District Tournament winner Gordon College is flexing it's muscles at this years NJCAA World Series. 

The Highlanders are putting up some impressive numbers on their way to a 2-0 record as they have beaten Shelton State of Alabama 11-3 Sunday and Jefferson State, Mo. Tuesday night in a slug-fest 20-13. 

In the two games the Highlanders have connected on a total of 26 hits. Gordon leads the tournament with a .422 team batting average. Their next opponent San Jacinto is third at .382. San Jac's pitching staff ranks first in tournament play with a 2.50 era. Gordon is near the bottom with a 8.40 era.

The Highlanders have three batters ranked in the top five in hitting. Jody Stone (1st-800 average) 4/5, 1HR, 1-3B, 7RBIs, 4R,  Aaron Mizell (2nd-714), Drew Adams tied (3rd-700).

Gordon College has won their last five of six games, counting their three of four victories at the East/Central tournament at Middle Georgia.

The #10 Highlanders' (38-23) next game is set for Wednesday night 7:30mst against #8 San Jacinto College-North of Houston, TX.,(39-23) out of the Southern Division, the only undefeated teams left at 2-0. San Jac is making its 22nd appearance in the NJCAA World Series.
