LIBERTY, Ind. – Clint Spaeth hit a bases-clearing double to complete a seven-run seventh inning as Union County rallied for an 18-17 win over Twin Valley South in the opener of Saturday’s Union County Invitational.
The Patriots then claimed the tournament title by defeating Oldenburg Academy 11-8 in the champion-ship game.
Hunter Miller was 3-for-4 with two home runs in Game 1, before going 2-for-2 with another homer and four runs scored in Game 2.
Spaeth was 2-for-5 with five RBIs in Game 1 and Bryce Fields also had two hits and three stolen bases.
Shane Mosley went 3-for-3 with three RBIs against Oldenburg, while Dakota Stansberry had two hits and two RBIs and Bryce Jenkins also had two hits.
Justin Philpot earned the win in Game 1, while Scott Mosley did so in Game 2.
Oldenburg defeated South Dearborn 4-3, while South Dearborn defeated Twin Valley South 14-2 in the tournament.
The Patriots (6-1) travel Monday to Randolph Southern. Union County has won three in a row.
