Tri-County and Montezuma to Share Wrestling Program

October 18, 2009
By Jamie Maxwell of Tri County High School

Tri-County and Montezuma Schools will be sharing their junior high and high school wrestling programs for the next 2 years.  There were many hours put into this agreement.  There were numerous meetings with parents, students, coaches and administration to get input from everyone that is involved in wrestling.  Due to declining numbers in schools, many schools have had to share athletic programs.  This season will be the first of a two year sharing agreement for wrestling between the two schools.  Tri-County will be the host school.  The schools will share the cost of uniforms, fees and coaches.  All practices will be held in Thornburg.  Scott Edmundson and Jesse Montgomery will continue to coach the varsity.  Jesse Montgomery will continue to coach the junior high.  Matt Collins will be a volunteer coach.  Montezuma is looking to hire a coach as well.  The 8 cheerleaders will wear the Tri-County uniforms.  Tryouts for cheerleading will be held in November with some cheerleaders from both schools.  Tri-County will host 1 home meet this season and the Tri-County Invitational on December 12th.  Montezuma will host 1 home meet this season and the Montezuma Invitational on December 5th.  The name for the wrestling program will be TC-M (Tri-County-Montezuma).  Last season the Tri-County wrestlers performed well individually but when it came time to add up the team points couldn't compete as a team with only 5 wrestlers.  This season the TC-M team will be able to compete as a team when they participate in meets and tournaments.  The students at Tri-County and Montezuma are excited about the upcoming season.  The Tri-County Athletic Boosters are paying for any TC-M junior high or high school wrestler to attend a wrestling camp at English Valleys on Saturday, October 24th from 9 a.m-2 p.m.
