Spartans pick up home wins over Patriots

South Warren 60 Bazzell 22 (7th)
The first quarter of play looked like it was going to be a tough game for the Spartans at home against the Bazzell Patriots. Will Calvert scored all six points for Bazzell in the quarter and SW only led 9-6 at the end of the first quarter. Ryder Litten then took over the 2nd quarter for South Warren, scoring a SWMS record 18 points in one quarter as the Spartans outscored Bazzell 22-2 in the period to lead 31-8 at the half. The Patriots played the Spartans even in the 3rd quarter, but could never get the deficit under 20. The 4th quarter saw many of the South Warren subs to come in and explode for 17 points and pull away for the 60-22 win. Litten finished with a game high 24 points. Austin Pollard came off the bench to add 8 points of his own, all in the final period. Calvert finished with 8 points for the Patriots. The win moved the Spartans to 5-3 on the season. SW returns to action at home on Thurs. Dec 1. against Barren County. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

South Warren 45 Bazzell 38 (8th)
South Warren picked up a big win Monday night 45-38 over the visiting Patriots from Allen County. The Spartans had no answer early on for Lucas Wood, who scored the Spartans for 10 points in the first quarter, including three 3-pt field goals. Michael Hicks added 5 points, including a three pt field goal, to keep the Spartans within 13-9 after the first period of play. Coach Reed lit into his team about picking up the defensive pressure, and South Warren would take a 23-19 lead into the lockerroom at half. The Spartans were balanced in the half with three players (Hicks, Chandler Stephanski, and Brandon Stacker) picking up 18 of the 23 points. The Patriots would not go away and closed the gap to 30-28 entering the final period of play. The game would remain close to the final two minutes of the game before the Spartans would pull out a 45-38 victory. Bryan Cummings came up big in the 4th period with six points, including 2 of 4 from the free throw line. Stacker and Hicks led the Spartans for the game with 12 and 11 points, respectively. The win moved the Spartans to 4-3 on the season and they will return to action on Thurs. Dec 1. at home against Barren County.
