Spartans defeat Drakes Creek in 3 of 4 basketball games
December 20, 2013By Bryan Priddy of South Warren Middle School
The South Warren Middle School basketball teams picked up 3 more big wins over Drakes Creek last night before the holiday break.
Both girls teams defeated the Gators for the second time in three weeks. The 7th grade started early behind the scoring of Natalie Pierce with a 30-17 win. The victory moved the Spartans to 10-4 on the season. The 8th grade girls got off to a slow start but finally pulled away in the final quarter for a 31-20 win. Pierce had 8 quick points to start the fourth quarter en route to the victory. The win moved the Lady Spartans to 10-7 on the season. Both teams return to action on Thursday, Jan 9 @ Warren East.
The Spartans boys teams were on the road @ Drakes Creek and the 7th grade team wasted little time in opening up a big lead in the game and would never be threatened. The Spartans went to win 32-21 and moved their season record to 6-7 on the season. The 8th grade Spartans were hoping to pick up a win after a tightly contested game three weeks ago. The Spartans came out flat and fell down 22-4 before beginning to make a run. The Spartans would work to get the deficit down to single digits in the 2nd half and could never get it closer than six points in a 32-26 loss to the host Gators. The loss dropped the Spartans to 4-9 on the season. Both boys teams will return to action at home on Thursday, Jan 9 against Warren East.
Have a great holiday break and see you in 2014.
