SWMS Basketball extend winning streaks with wins over Gators

SWMS BASKETBALL TAKES 3 OF 4 OVER DRAKES CREEK
 

The South Warren Middle School basketball teams continued their amazing winning streaks by winning 3 of 4 games against Drakes Creek last night. The victories moved South Warren to an astounding 50-14 record in all sports versus Warren County schools in 2012-13, and 19-3 record versus Drakes Creek in 2012-13. Congratulations to South Warren for their outstanding performances. 


The girls teams dominated the visiting Gators en route to 41-15 wins in both the 7th and 8th grade games. These wins moved the girls incredible run this season to a combined record of 30-3. 

The 7th grade girls (16-1) won their 15th game in a row and will go into this weekend's tournament (@Drakes Creek, Jan 19) as the #1 seed with an undefeated conference record.The Spartans will play at 11:30 a.m against the winner of Moss and Franklin. After only leading 15-11 at halftime, the Spartans blitzed the Gators with pressure and pulled away to the 41-15 victory. Peyton Ferry led all scorers with 17 points, and was 6 for 6 from the charity stripe. The Spartans were 8 for 9 from the free throw line for the game.


The 8th grade (14-2) won their 8th game in a row and locked up the #1 seed in next weekend's tournament at Moss Middle School (Jan 26). They will play at 11:30 a.m against the winner of the Bazzell and Moss Middle. Deanna Taylor led a balanced scoring attack for South Warren with 10 points as the Spartans turned an 11 point halftime lead into a 41-15 win. Nine different players scored for the Spartans.




 The boys teams played two very exciting games against the host Gators. The 7th grade Spartans battled to the end and came up on the short end of a 37-31 score against Drakes Creek. The Spartans fell into a early double digit deficit of 19-9 at the break and fought back to cut the lead to 3 late in the 4th. Adam Smiley led the Spartans with 9 points. SW was 8 of 9 from the free throw line for the night. The Spartans (3-12) will be the #8 seed in this weekend's tournament and play #9 Bazzell (@Barren Co, 9 a.m). South Warren defeated Bazzell 43-25 in Scottsville on Dec. 10th. The winner of that game will meet #1 seed Monroe Co. at 11:30 a.m.


The boys 8th grade Spartans found themselves in a tight game all night against Drakes Creek. The Spartans (12-3) defeated Drakes 43-34 back on Dec 17. @ SW. A packed house at Drakes Creek was given a great game, that saw neither team ever gain more than a 8 point advantage. The Spartans led 32-24 after two made free throws from Ryder Litten with 2:09 remaining. The Gators stormed back with a 7-1 run over the next 2 minutes when Dylan Beckham made one of two free throws with 10 seconds to play to give the Spartans a 34-31 edge. Drakes Creek's final 3 point shot at the buzzer was missed as South Warren held on to the three point win. Beckham led all scorers with 14 points. The victory was the 8th win in a row for the Spartans. South Warren will be the #3 seed in next weekend's tournament (@Franklin Simpson) and will play Franklin Simpson in the tournament opener @ 2:00 p.m. South Warren defeated Franklin 49-33 on Jan 10 @ SWMS.
