Home » Girls' Basketball NewsLady Spartans winning streak continuesNovember 27, 2012 By Bryan Priddy of South Warren Middle SchoolSouth Warren Lady Spartans returned to their winning ways at Warren East after an almost two week layoff from action. Coach Manion stated that both teams got off to very slow starts and struggled to get into the flow of the games. Manion emphasized that it was Defense that was the biggest contributor for both the 7th and 8th grade teams. The 7th grade Spartans increased their winning streak to six games and moved to 7-1 on the season with a tough 31-21 victory over the host Raiders. After falling behind 9-6 in the first quarter, the Spartans finished the half on a 10-3 run and took a 16-12 lead into the break. South Warren would never relinquish the lead and go on to the 10 point win on the road. The Spartans were paced by Sarah Dennison who finished with 13 points, while Peyton Ferry added 9 of her own. The Lady Spartans will travel to Bowling Green on Thursday (Nov 29). Game time is 5:30 p.m. Congratulations to Coach Stevenson and the Lady Spartans. Click Here for 7th Grade Girls Box Scores
The South Warren 8th Grade Lady Spartans also came into the game looking to win their 4th straight contest. The Spartans found themselves in a battle all night and struggled to make shots against the host Raiders before driving the ball to the basket late in the game and pulling out the 32-28 victory and improving to 6-1 for the season. South Warren trailed most of the first 3 quarters before outscoring the Raiders 11-5 in the final quarter to get the win. Most of those points in the final quarter came from the foul line as SW went 7-16 from the stripe in the 4th quarter and 14-25 for the game. Warren East shot 6-22 from the line for the game. Deanna Taylor paced the Spartans with 10 points while 7th grader Sarah Dennison came off the bench for 7 points, including 3-3 from the line. South Warren returns to action on Thursday, Nov 29th when they travel to Bowling Green. Game time is following the 7th grade game around 6:40 p.m Congratulations to Coach Manion and the Lady Spartans for their success.
