By Bryan Priddy of South Warren Middle School
The 8th grade team's extended wait to start the season proved to be worth the wait as South Warren rolled through the Barren County tourney on Saturday, Nov 17th. The Spartans had no trouble in their opening two wins, defeating Monroe Co (48-13) and host Barren Co (36-18) moving them to the championship game against Warren East. The Spartans busted open a close game early on by jumping to a 22-13 halftime lead over the Raiders and would hold on in the 2nd half to win 47-39.
The Spartans were led in the championship game by Ryder Litten (16 points) and Zach Haynes (10 points). Litten led the Spartans in the tournament with 45 points in the 3 games, while Haynes added 27 of his own. Coach Reed was very happy for his team but said they had quite a bit to work on this coming week to get better.
The Spartans will have no time to rest as they are back in action tonight (Mon. Nov 19th) as they travel to Russellville for a Boys 7th/8th doubleheader. The first game will start at 5:30 p.m. Best of luck to Coach Reed and both Spartans teams as they look to keep up their winning start.
