Spartans look to advance in Playoffs @ Fort Campbell
November 9, 2012By Bryan Priddy of South Warren Middle School
The South Warren Spartans football program looks to continue their outstanding run this season with a tough challenge on the road at Fryar Stadium in Fort Campbell this Friday night (Nov 9) at 7:00 p.m. South Warren won its first playoff game last week with a 16-7 home win over Trigg County. After giving up an early long touchdown pass, the Spartans defense put the clamps on the Wildcats the rest of the game.
The Spartans (8-3) defense has given up only 11 points per game this year, but will face a stiff challenge in the Fort Campbell offense, who has averaged nearly 46 points a game this season and has put up 40+ points against 7 of its last 8 opponents. The Eagles (9-2) won their opening playoff game against Hart County 57-8 last Friday night. The high powered attack is led by running back Triston Luke who has 1,938 rushing yards and a school record 30 rushing touchdowns, and hopes to become the first 2,000 yard rusher in school history.
The Spartans offense will look to use a balanced offensive attack, led by Junior QB Jay Eblen who has thrown for 1,137 yards and 12 touchdowns and run for 585 yards and another 11 touchdowns. The Spartans average 29.9 points a game and 309 total yards per game.
The winner of tonight's game will move on to the regional championship to face the winner of Monroe Co/Paducah Tilghman, next Friday Nov 16th.
Best of luck to Coach Nelson and the Spartans as they look to advance!
