Lady Spartans Basketball sweeps Purples in home openers

The South Warren Spartans girls basketball teams opened their home openers with an impressive sweep of the Bowling Green Purples on Thursday night.
The 7th grade Spartans took early control of their game jumping to a 12-0 lead after the first quarter of play. They would never look back and cruised to a 39-15 win. The Spartans were led in scoring by Peyton Ferry with 15 points. Click here for box score of the game.
The 8th grade Spartans battled the Purples in the 2nd game in a much closer contest. The Spartans clawed to a 22-19 lead by halftime, behind good defense and nine points from Deanna Taylor. The Spartans took command in the 3rd quarter by outscoring BG 12-4 in the period and moving to a 34-23 into the final quarter. SW held on to win 42-32 and win its opening game of the 2012-2013 season. Taylor led the Spartans with 17 points, while Sara Ortiz added 10.

The 8th grade team will return to action on Saturday, November 10th in the SWMS Invitational Tournament. The 7th grade team will return to action on Monday, November 12th, when they travel to Logan County to take on Olmstead Middle School. Good luck to the Lady Spartans.
