South Warren Middle School Track & Field Update
In last Thursday's Varsity Regional Meet held at Central Hardin High School, many South Warren Middle School students participated and contributed to South Warren High School earning the Region 2AA Runner up Trophy.
8th Grader Megan Gilliam earned 2nd place in the 100 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles. She was also on the 4x200 relay team which earned 2nd place. She will be advancing to the Kentucky High School State Championship in 3 different events. It is very rare that an 8th grader makes Varsity State, let alone in three different events. According to KYTrackXC.com, Megan is the #1 rated girl Middle School Hurdler in the State of Kentucky.
8th grader Brooke Simpson & 7th grader Caroline Haas earned 4th & 6th place in the 1600 meters. They also earned medals in the 3200 meters as well. Caroline earned 4th place and Brooke earned 5th. Brooke & Caroline were also on the 4x800 meter relay team that will advance to the High School State Championship.
8th Grader Bryan Cummings earned 3rd place in the Triple Jump after setting a new SWHS School record by jumping 38 feet. 8th Grader Ed Huzyak earned 5th place in the Pole Vault, vaulting 9 feet. According to KYTrackXC.com, Ed is the #1 rated Middle School Pole Vaulter in the State of Kentucky.
Other South Warren Middle School students who participated in Varsity Regionals included: 8th Graders Summer Meherg, Sierra Keene, Chelby Draper, Erik Roepke, & Brock Gant.
Friday (May 18th) is the Kentucky High School State Track & Field Championship. It will be held at the University of Louisville. It begins at 2pm (Central time). The following SWMS students qualified to compete at Varsity State: Brooke Simpson, Caroline Haas, & Megan Gilliam. Sierra Keene, Chelby Draper, Sara Pennington, & Brock Gant also qualified as relay alternates.
Saturday (May 26th) is the Kentucky Middle School State Track & Field Championship. It will be held at Dunbar High School in Lexington. It begins at 9am (Central time).
