@ SWMS

7th Grade:  SWMS 47  Moss 50

South Warren had just been blasted 76-26 by Moss just over a month ago. The explosive Dragons came to South Warren with the same intentions, but found themselves in a war with the Spartans. South Warren went toe to toe with the Dragons to the last seconds before coming up short 50-47. The largest lead for either team was 7 early on, when South Warren jumped ahead 12-5. Ryder Litten jumped on the Dragons early scoring 10 of the 16 first quarter points for the Spartans. He was 6 for 6 from free throw line during this quarter and finished 12 for 17 for the game. The Dragons took a two point lead (24-22) into the half and the 2nd half would see the teams exchange leads back and forth. The Dragons went three consecutive possessions in the third quarter hitting 3 point field goals but still only led by 2 points. Chauncey Greer hit three (3 pt field goals) for the Dragons in the 2nd half. Litten took over down the stretch, fighting for everything he could get to keep the Spartans in reach. Litten finished with a game high 28 points and 9 rebounds on the night. Zach Haynes led the Spartans with 12 rebounds. The Dragons had come into the game scoring 87 and 80 points in its last two outings. After Jaylen McFadden hit one of two free throws to put Moss up 50-47, the Spartans had one final shot but Litten couldn't get a final three point attempt to fall.

Coach Young and the Spartans had much to be proud of, to play at that level and intensity for 24 minutes straight. The Dragons never were able to put the run together to pull away. McFadden led the Dragons with 15 points, and Zyian Milliken added 10. Moss moved to 15-5 on the season and the Spartans dropped to 10-9. South Warren will finish the regular season at home against Franklin, and will play in the 7th Grade Conference Tourney at SWMS this Saturday, Feb. 4.

8th Grade -  SWMS 39  Moss 44

South Warren had no answer to keep the visiting Dragons off the offensive boards or to stop Chance Shanklin from outside. Shanklin hit five 3-pt field goals and had a game high 17 points to lead the Dragons to a 44-39 win over the Spartans. The teams split the regular season with the Spartans winning 44-32 at WC back on Dec. 8th. After falling behind 20-10 late through the 2nd quarter, the Spartans ran off the final six points of the first half and started the 3rd quarter on a 9-4 run to take a 25-24 lead. Rajee Anderson would score all nine of his points in the 2nd half as the Dragons would go on 13-3 run to move ahead 37-28 and pull away late in the 4th quarter.

Brandon Stacker led the Spartans with 15 points and Griffin Heltsley added 9 points and 11 rebounds. 81 of the 83 points scored in the game came from the starters. Moss moved to 12-6 on the year and the loss dropped SW to 12-6 on the season.
