SWMS takes 2nd consecutive District Governor's Cup
January 24, 2012By Bryan Priddy of South Warren Middle School
For the second year in a row, South Warren Middle School secured the Governor's Cup District 18 Championship.
Once again it was close, but SWMS was fortunate to have Future Problem Solving Team place first, which gave them a great lead into the day. SWMS written assessment students contributed many points with medal placements in almost every content area. All three of the students competing in science and composition received medals.
The pressure was on for SWMS Quick Recall team to perform. The team made it to the final bracket of double elimination to compete against Drakes Creek Middle School. SWMS had one loss, which was to Drakes earlier in the day; Drakes was undefeated. SWMS won the first game. With the win, SW had secured a place at regional, but to win first place in Quick Recall and a chance at a repeat of district champions, they had to win the second game. SWMS and Drakes had played out this same scenario last year at district, but this time with a different outcome. With a final score of 31-27, SWMS secured first place in Quick Recall and contributed to the district win!
