@ Bazzell Middle School

7th Grade

The Spartans took out their midseason frustrations out on the host Patriots last night 52-19 in Scottsville. South Warren had dropped 5 of its last 6 games and was in need of any momentum into the last stretch of the season. Ryder Litten scored nine points in the opening period as the Spartans jumped to a 14-7 lead. The Spartans continued putting the pressure on and increased its lead to 25-10 by the break. The Spartans would find nine players to get in the scoring column by the end of the night and move its season record to 9-8.

Litten led all scorers with 17 points and Jaxson Smith added 8 points and 6 steals for the Spartans. Will Calvert would lead the Patriots with 16 of the team 19 points. SW will return to action against Barren Co. on Monday, Jan. 20 in Glasgow. The Spartans defeated the Trojans 52-18 back on Dec. 1. Game time in Barren Co. is 5:30 p.m. Good Luck to Coach Young and the Spartans.

Coach Reed knew going into Thursday's matchup that his Spartans would have their hands full traveling to Scottsville to take on the Bazzell Patriots. The Spartans had beaten the Patriots twice earlier in the season, but Coach Reed knew beating any team a third time is difficult ,especially on their home floor. "We wanted to come out early on and try to pressure them and hope we could get a lead on them. We were able to do that but they kept fighting back. We were fortunate to make some big plays late in the game, said Reed".   Michael Hicks helped South Warren get that early lead by scoring 10 of his game high 18 points in the first half as SW would lead 21-19 at the break. The game remained tight throughout the 2nd half as South Warren answered each time the Patriots would come back. With the game tied at 36 with just under three minutes to play, the Spartans would put a 9 - 4 run together to close out the 45-40 win. Hicks finished the game with four 3-pt field goals, and two in each half. Bryan Cummings finished with 8 points and 6 assists, and Griffin Heltsley led the Spartans with 6 rebounds.

The win moved the Spartans to 12-4 on the season. They will return to action on Monday, Jan. 23 @ Barren County. The Spartans won a tight game against the Trojans on Dec. 1 @ SW 38-30. Good Luck to Coach Reed and the Spartans.
