Lady Spartans sweep Patriots at home

7th Grade

The South Warren Lady Spartans picked up their 13th win of the season with an easy 38-22 win over the host Bazzell Middle School Patriots. South Warren got off to a slow offensive start in the first half but their pressure defense helped them take a 14-7 lead into the half. Katie Conley led the Spartans with four points in the first half of play. The 2nd half saw the Lady Spartans turn up the defensive pressure and SW would end up with 34 steals for the game. Zayanna Bailey scored 8 of her team high 10 points in the 3rd quarter that blew the game wide open for the Spartans. SW took a 32-15 lead into the final period and would never be threatened.

Kimmy DeGroot added 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 steals for the victorious Spartans. RaeAnn Stafford would lead the Patriots with 13 points. South Warren moved to 13-5 on the season and will return to action next week to host the Barren County Lady Trojans. South Warren defeated the Lady Trojans 30-20 back on December 1st in Glasgow.  The game will begin at 5:30 p.m and will be broadcast delayed on the SWMS iHigh Network.

8th Grade

Caroline Cowles scored all 12 of her points in the first half to help South Warren explode to a 25-7 lead at the intermission. The Lady Spartans would never be threatened in the 2nd half and would cruise to a 45-25 win over the visiting Lady Patriots. South Warren was led in scoring by Amaya Spears, who finished with 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 steals. Deanna Taylor and Timitryi Patterson controlled the boards for the Lady Spartans and combined for 17 rebounds in the game.

SW moved to 10-7 on the season and will next face Barren County on Monday, Jan. 23. @ SWMS. The Lady Spartans dropped their matchup with the Trojans 45-33 in Glasgown on Dec. 1. Hannah Vinson was the leading scorer for the Patriots with 14 points.
