MATTHEWS — Shydamion Ellerbe scored a career-high 31 points to spark Richmond Senior to an 83-78 overtime victory over Butler in the opening round of the NCHSAA 4A playoffs Monday.
LUMBERTON — This wasn’t the way Lumberton’s boys basketball team envisioned their season ending — at home in the first round of the state playoffs.

RAEFORD — Southeastern Conference Player of the Year Tarique Thompson poured in 28 points to lead second-seeded Hoke County to a 72-63 win over Holly Springs in the first round of the state 4A playoffs Monday night.
North Davidson upset Richmond’s girls in Rockingham 54-43 at Raider Gymnasium to advance to the second round of the NCHSAA 4A playoffs.
Lumberton’s girls team became Robeson County’s eighth casualty in the opening round after losing to Holly Springs on the road, 54-43.
