Seedings set for Slugfest by Shawn Stinson 

LUMBERTON - The schedule for the annual Robeson County Slugfest has been released by the county's athletic director Ronnie Chavis.

Hoke County earned the No. 1 seed in the baseball tournament, while Purnell Swett garnered the top seeding in the softball tournament. All of the Slugfest games will be played at St. Pauls High School.

The Bucks, the defending Slugfest champions, will open action against Red Springs at 10 a.m. Saturday. Purnell Swett will battle Fairmont at 1 p.m. South Robeson will face Lumberton at 4 p.m., while St. Pauls takes on Pine Forest in the nightcap at 7 p.m.

This is the first year for the softball tournament. South Robeson and West Bladen faceoff in the softball open at 11 a.m. Lumberton takes on Fairmont at 1:30 p.m., followed by Red Springs and the Rams at 4 p.m. Westover and St. Pauls closes out the first day of the softball tournament at 6:30 p.m.

The Slugfest's second day is scheduled for April 5, with the final games set for April 6.
