New Britain, CT- Defensive tackle Joe Pierro becomes the first Southwestern Prep to advance to a 4-year school as he commits to become a Blue Devil and head to Central Connecticut State University.

"Central's one of the top football programs in this part of the country and was my first choice out of high school" said Pierro, "I'm excited to see how I match up with other players."  At 6'0 270 pounds, Pierro will walk on to the Division I Blue Devils in the fall and hope to earn a spot on their championship roster. "I had the opportunity to go to other Division II and Division III programs but this gives me the chance to compete against the best."

In addition to being the first Grizzlies player to commit to a 4-year program, the Manchester High School product will also be the first student-athlete to earn his associate degree and graduate from his community college. "That's what I am proudest of in terms of Joe, he put in the work in the classroom and obviously did great on the field" said defensive coordinator John Prendiville. Pierro's 3.6 GPA in the fall was the highest on the Grizzlies and placed him on the All- Academic team.
