By Coach Todd Dawkins of Southwestern Connecticut Grizzlies

Deven Diaz becomes a member of the list of Grizzlies players heading to 4-year universities in the fall. The standout halfback has committed to the University of Rhode Island.

At 5'11 205 pounds, Diaz collected over 1,000 yards his senior year at Oxford (CT) High School. He currently holds the school record in every rushing category including a 300+ yard game. Diaz 4.58 speed along with his 340 pound bench makes him a complete package; however, he may find himself on the defensive side of the ball. "They said they may look at me on defense, that's find with me; I just want to be a part of their program" said Diaz. Diaz was a starter on both offense and defense in high school and played in the New Haven County-Fairfield County All Star game as a linebacker.

"He's a great athlete and can make an impact anywhere they put the kid" said Grizzlies coach Bernie Armstrong, "he has a strong family supporting him also so I know he'll succeed up there."
