Stillman Cardinals Advance 5 Wrestlers to State 

Stillman Valley Cardinals bring 8 wrestlers into the Class 1A Sectionals in Oregon this past weekend.  The first round took place Friday night at 4:30pm.  Stillman would have 5 weights with byes in the first round (112, 119, 125, 130, and 160).  At 140 Talon Paul would start the Cardinal run with a pin of 2.23.  At 145 Tad Hawley would also get a Cardinal pin in 1.14.  At 285 Pat Cusack would have a close match that would end up 3-2 unfortunately putting him into the wrestle backs on Saturday.  In round 2 at 112 Miah Shearer would get a tech-fall 25-10.  At 119 Nick Harrison gets a Cardinal pin of .31sec.  At 125 JJ Whaley gets a tech-fall of 15-0.   At 130 Jose Abitua would win a close one 7-5, and at 160 Zach Patterson would also get a win of 7-0 advancing them all to the next round on Saturday. 

On Saturday we start with 285 Pat Cusack in wrestle backs, unfortunately for this cardinal sophomore this would end in a fall of 4:59.  This would leave 7 Cardinals headed into the Semi-final round.  At 112 Miah Shearer starts the cardinals off with a close win of 6-4 advancing him to the Finals.  At 119 Nick Harrison would also advance with a Cardinal pin of 1:19.  At 125 JJ Whaley keeps the pins going with 2:26 advancing him as well.  At 130 Jose Abitua would end up getting pinned by the eventually champion of this weight class in 1:33.  At 140 Talon Paul would also lose a good match 14-8 after having the eventual champion of this weight class on his back.  At 145 Tad Hawley would get a Cardinal pin of 2:53.  With one weight left in Semi's the cardinals are looking good.  At 160 Zach Patterson would end this round with a 10-4 win.  In the semi-final wrestle backs the cardinals have 2 wrestlers that need to win to advance to the finals.  At 130 Jose Abitua would not be advancing to the finals with a loss of 7-0.  At 140 Talon Paul advances with an 11-1 win.

The Cardinals have 6 out of 8 wrestling in the finals.  Five of those wrestler's are already State Qualifiers.  After an exciting parade of finalists we start off with 112 Miah Shearer.  Miah would end placing 2^nd in a very close match.  At 119 Nick Harrison would be the Cardinals 1^st Sectional champion, following him will be 125 JJ Whaley with another 1^st place finish.  At 140 Talon Paul would take 4^th place.  At 145 Tad Hawley would finish 2^nd in a very excitingly close match.  At 160 Zach Patterson would also take 2^nd place also in a close match.  Next weekend the Cardinals will travel to Champaign for the IHSA Class 1A Championships.  The Cardinals have 5 hopefuls for State Placement.  Good Luck to all of them in Champaign.  Bring home the hardware!
