REGULAR SEASON
Wednesday, Feb. 15: SOUTH BROWARD, W 16-1 (3) (1-0): Kristen Scott blasts two doubles and drives in three runs, Sam Strum goes 3-for-3 with two RBI and Gwen Svekis has a double and three RBI to back Stephanie Arneson (6 Ks in 3 innings) in the season-opening district win. Sophomores Morgan Biddle and Rachel Collins and freshman Jillian Healy make their varsity debuts. Congratulations!
Friday, Feb. 17: at Plantation, W 15-0 (3) (2-0): Gwen Svekis is 2-for-2 with a triple and 3 RBI and Stephanie Sobolewski goes 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Katie Behm tosses three scoreless innings.
Tuesday, Feb. 21: at McArthur, W 15-3 (3-0): Christie Parsons earns her way on base five times, going 4-for-4 with a double, HR and 4 RBI. Sara Ruiz adds three doubles in the final three innings and Gwen Svekis goes 3-for-5 with an HR, driving in three runs.
Thursday, Feb. 23: at Cooper City, L 6-3 (3-1): Gwen Svekis was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI and Stephanie Sobolewski was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Sam Strum had Aquinas' lone extra-base hit with a double to lead off the sixth inning. Alex Smith's bunt single accounted for the Raiders' remaining hit.
Tuesday, Feb. 28: PLANTATION, W 11-0 (5) (4-1): Victoria Stock's two-out, two-run single opened the Raiders' scoring in the first inning, while Kristen Scott went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Katie Behm, Tayler Hishon and Kyla Jimenez each added two hits as well. Behm struck out eight Colonels.
Friday, March 2: at South Broward, W 15-0 (3) (5-1): Sara Ruiz drove in three runs and Christie Parsons and Sam Strum drove in two apiece to lead the offense. Stephanie Arneson struck out seven Bulldogs and her only base runners against her came by way of two infield hits and a Raiders error.
Tuesday, March 6: NOVA, W 13-3 (5) (6-1): For the second time this season, Christie Parsons came one hit away from the cycle as the Raiders clawed past the Titans on a blustery day that regularly saw the wind topping 30 mph. Parsons, who had drilled two singles, a double and a home run at McArthur on Feb. 21, had a single, double and triple against Nova, driving in two runs. For the season, Parsons is 12-for-18 (.667 BA) with three walks (.714 OBP) and owns a team-best 1.770 on-base-plus-slugging percentage (OPS). Stephanie Sobolewski went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Meanwhile Gwen Svekis went 1-for-1 with two walks and an RBI. Svekis has had at least one RBI in each of the six games she has played in and is at 12 for the season. Her OPS is second behind Parsons at 1.707.
Thursday, March 8: MCARTHUR, W 7-4 (7-1): With the Raiders down 1-0 in the fourth inning, Victoria Stock hit a key two-out double. After Morgan Biddle pushed her to third with a single, Stock scored on a wild pitch, tying the score. The next inning, with Stock chipping in a two-run double, Aquinas scored six runs to take a 7-1 lead and hung on, moving to 7-1. Gwen Svekis extended her hit streak to eight games.
Wednesday, March 21: at Nova, W 13-0 (6) (8-1): Stephanie Arneson leads the way, allowing only four base runners in six innings, striking out six. To point out her dominance, all three of the singles allowed hit off a Raiders infielder's glove. Leading the offense were Kristen Scott and Emilie Rowand who each had two hits and 3 RBI as a whopping nine Aquinas hitters had at least one RBI.
Friday, March 23: LaBelle, W 9-1 (9-1) (SlamFest at Palmetto Bay): It was Class of 2014 day in the SlamFest opener as the underclassmen combined to go 8-for-12 with all eight of the team's RBI and pitch seven stellar innings. Rachel Collins, starting at shortstop, was 3-for-4 with two runs, 2 RBI and a stolen base. Catcher Gwen Svekis was 2-for-3 with 4 RBI. Katie Behm allowed only three base runners and no earned runs in seven innings. Victoria Stock was 1-for-2 with a run and 2 RBI. And Morgan Biddle also went 2-for-3.
Friday, March 23: Okeechobee, L 9-2 (9-2) (SlamFest at Palmetto Bay): Rachel Collins, Victoria Stock and Christie Parsons the only Raiders to get hits as Okeechobee standout Sam Harrell strikes out 11.
Saturday, March 24: Coral Reef, L 5-3 (9-3) (SlamFest at Palmetto Bay): Gwen Svekis is 1-for-3 with Aquinas' lone RBI, and Christie Parsons, Sara Ruiz, Victoria Stock and Emilie Rowand also add a hit each. Stock steals second, third and home during one trip around the bases.
Saturday, March 24: Deerfield Beach, W 15-0 (3) (10-3) (SlamFest at Palmetto Bay): Sam Strum went 3-for-3 against Deerfield with three RBI. Gwen Svekis was 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI and had seven for the weekend to push her team-leading total to 20. Victoria Stock was the only Raider to have at least one hit in all four SlamFest games.
Monday, March 26: at Pembroke Pines Charter at Silver Lakes, W 10-6 (11-3): Christie Parsons went 3-for-5 and Gwen Svekis also reached base three times as STA , down 4-0, scored 10 runs in the fifth inning and then hung on for a 10-6 win. Katie Behm pitched three scoreless innings to get the save in the win for Stephanie Arneson and the Raiders.
Thursday, March 29: COOPER CITY, L 7-1 (11-4): On Senior Night, senior Christie Parsons and junior Sam Strum each get two hits, but the Raiders fall to Cooper City and will have the No. 2 seed in the district playoffs.
Thursday, April 5: Winter Springs (Kissimmee Klassic), L 9-0 (11-5): The Raiders have a difficult time against one of the top five teams in the state.
Friday, April 6: St. Petersburg Canterbury (Kissimmee Klassic), W 14-1 (12-5): Rachel Collins went 3-for-4, Sam Strum drove in three runs and Stephanie Arneson, Jillian Healy and Sam Sharkey combined for a no-hitter against Canterbury, who went into the game ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 2A.
Friday, April 6: Pine Castle Christian (Kissimmee Klassic), W 4-3 (9) (13-5): Katie Behm pitches nine innings, striking out 7, and Emilie Rowand comes up with the Raiders' biggest hit of the season thus far with a double to drive in a galloping Stephanie Sobolewski from first base with the Raiders down 2-1 with two outs in the seventh inning. Christie Parsons makes a handful of sparkling plays at third base and Rachel Collins makes a big throw from shortstop to home to get a huge out in the ninth inning. Pine Castle came into the game ranked No. 2 in 2A.
Saturday, April 7: Chamberlain (Kissimmee Klassic), W 6-4 (14-5): Emilie Rowand, Alex Smith and Gwen Svekis collect two hits each, and Jillian Healy and Katie Behm combine for 4 2/3 scoreless innings as the Raiders beat the second-ranked team in 7A.
Monday, April 9: at Pompano Beach (Four Fields), W 11-3 (15-5): Sam Strum hit a home run as she and Gwen Svekis drove in three runs each, leading the Raiders to a 15-5 regular-season record.
Tuesday, April 17: MCARTHUR (at McArthur in District semifinals), W 11-1 (16-5): Gwen Svekis hits a grand slam and Rachel Collins and Christie Parsons pick up two hits apiece and play strong left-side-of-the-infield defense as the Raiders advance to the district final on Thursday. Sam Sharkey gets her first at-bats since March 6 and goes 2-for-2 with 2 RBI.
Thursday, April 19: District finals at McArthur HS vs Cooper City, W 6-5 (17-5): Rachel Collins drove in three runs and Jillian Healy saved the victory for Katie Behm as the Raiders extended coach Bryan Baucom's district championship streak to 18 years, the entirety of his run as the Aquinas softball coach. The Raiders were trailing 2-1 after four innings, but, in the top of the fifth, Gwen Svekis walked with the bases loaded to drive in Emilie Rowand, Collins drove in Christie Parsons and Sam Sharkey with a double, Stephanie Sobolewski scored on a passed ball and Sara Ruiz drove in Collins with a sacrifice fly.
Wednesday, April 25: Regional quarterfinal vs. Northeast at STA at 6:30 p.m.
Friday, April 27: Regional semifinal
Tuesday, May 1: Regional final
Friday-Saturday, May 11-12: 3A, 7A state tournament (dates changed on April 12)
