2013-2014 Season Preview
The Wildcat family is in store for an exciting season this year. We are looking forward to seeing emerging leadership in our 2014 Senior Class with Thomas Stubblefield, Blake Fitzgerald, Joshua McSwain, and returning Junior, Robert Alston. With over half of the team consisting of new players, our coaches and seniors have the wonderful opportunity to see and develop new talent within our ranks. In developing our players, we expect there to be some growing pains as we get the team acclimated to varsity basketball. However, we are confident that this season will be productive and continue to advance the basketball program.
2012-13 Season Review
The Wildcat Boys’ Basketball Team had an incredible 2012-13 season. This was a season of firsts. We won our first Area Championship, had our first twenty-win season, and our first player (Chris Enger) to join the "1,000 Point Club".
Our goals for the year were to win the Division1A Area Play-off, get ranked in the top ten, host the Sub-Region game, win the South Regionals Tournament, and make it to the Final Four. We believed that if we accomplished these goals, the rest would take care of itself. Well, once the team achieved full strength at the close of the football season, the Wildcats were well on their way to accomplishing these goals, and in the end we achieved 3 out of 5 of the set goals and also annihilating a longtime rival, McIntosh High School. We won the Division1A Area Tournament; finished the season ranked number 9 in the state; and hosted the Sub-Region game. However, in the Sub-Region game, we were paired with Sunshine High School, a team we literally had to look up to with starting players averaging 6’3" and up. The Wildcats fought tirelessly to combat the pressure the team created at the goal by making shots from the outside. However, their tall line up forced us into poor shooting night. We shot 4 for 25 from the 3 point line. Even though we were mismatched in size, our valiant efforts kept the game close ending our season losing 60-64.
The Wildcats truly enjoyed an incredible season.
Among other accomplishments, the team participated in four tournaments: Cats vs. Cancer Tournament (Paxton, FL); Barn Storm Classic Tournament (Panama City, FL); Mobile Christian Thanksgiving Tournament (Mobile, AL); Division 1A Area Tournament (Mobile, AL). The team won 3 out of the 4 tournaments. We had two players, Aaron Bryant and Chris Enger, to make the All-County Team. Additionally, we had two players to make the All-Academic Team (Adam Miller and Thomas Stubblefield). We graduated seven seniors: Taylor Blackwell, Aaron Bryant, John Burkes, Chris Enger, Lorenzo Lindsey, Adam Miller, and Alex Polio. Among these seniors, Aaron Bryant received a basketball scholarship to play at Jacksonville College and will go on to showcase his skills in Jacksonville, Texas. Best of luck to all of the graduates in their future endeavors. To the Wildcat family, thanks for all of the support this past season and in the season to come.
