2014-2015 Season Overview

Last season was another good year for the Wildcat Football team, as they finished the season at 8-4, and another visit to the State Playoffs.  After starting 1-2, for the second year in a row, the Wildcats were able compete at a high level and continue there stellar performance on the football field throughout the year.  The Wildcats were prepared and worked extremely hard to compete, but fell short of victory in the second round to State Runner-Up, the Brantley High Bulldogs.  Coming into this season, the Wildcats will make the jump from 1A Region 1, to 2A Region 1, which is considered by many to be one of the toughest regions in the state.  In continuing playoff hopes, the Wildcats will have to face the likes of some tough opponents in region play: Washington County High School(2013 State Runner Up), Sweetwater High School(2013 Semifinal Team), Leroy High School(Traditional Powerhouse), and Mobile Christian(Crosstown Rival).  The Wildcats will find out early in the season if they will be ready to take on the responsibility of what awaits them in 2A, as they open the season up with 3 of four games being: Sweetwater, Washington County, and Leroy.  Last year the Wildcats avg. 24 points per game, but gave up an avg of 22 per game.  This season will be led by a very seasoned group of seniors that have a great deal of experience.  This group is highlighted by Senior, QB, Luke Phillips,  Senior, OL, Matthew Holland(2013 1st Team All-State Selection), and Senior DL/LB Darrian McMillan(2013 Crichton Optimist Club DL of the Year Recipient).

2014-2015 Season

This season shows promise with a senior led group that has been battle-tested and ready to take the leadership role that has been placed upon them.  The Wildcats are returning 8 starters on offense and 9 starters on defense.  The addition of the freshman class brings depth to a team that has the balance and skill that is needed to be successful this year.  The Headliners: The emergence of seniors: Tanner Chastain, Hayden Crigler, Harrison Downing, John David Favors, Chet Hendrix, Jeremy Lipscomb, Jordan Lipscomb, Patrick Lods, Darrian McMillan, Luke Phillips, Will Phillips, Graham Rice, gives the 2014 Wildcats some veteran leadership, and a great deal of experience.  Offensive Strengths: The St. Luke’s offense has gone through some minor changes but have adapted to the players that will compete for positions this year.  QB Luke Phillips has taken command of the Offense and has emerged as leader of that group, and will stir the ship for the upcoming season.  RB Jordan Lipscomb will give this offense the speed and shiftiness that we be needed to navigate through defense to lead our football team to vicotory.  The Air Show: The receiving corp., is led by Senior TE, John David Favors who has emerged as a big time presence in the passing game.  His big frame, and speed deception gives him the potential to be a big time threat.  Offensive Hawgs:  The offensive line has shown tremendous improvement in strength and power, as well as an understanding of the new look offense.  Returning starters, Matthew Holland (T), Patrick Martin (G), Harrison Downing will spearhead a veteran savoy group a young lineman that has the potential to breakout this season.

The 2014-2015 Defense has also gone through a few changes that should help out this coming season.  The Wildcats new base 3-4 look should be ready to take on the heavy-rushing attack that opponents have been using to navigate towards the endzone.  The Big 3: Led by Senior, Graham Rice (NG), this group has added power, depth and attitude to disrupt opposing offenses.  Experience is Critical: The Wildcats linebacker corp., consists of four seniors that will take command of the defense.  Led by Darrian McMillan (MLB), Hayden Crigler (MLB) Will Phillips (SLB), and John David Favor (JLB), this group paves the way for signal calls and defensive adjustments to be made throughout the entire defense.  No Fly Zone: The secondary of the Wildcats Defense will be led by Luke Phillips and Tanner Chastain.  These two will patrol the offenses passing game to make sure there are no big plays aloud.  The cornerback position is a wide-open race in which Jordan Lipscomb (Senior), will solidify one side, and competition amongst Patrick Lods, and Christian Kennedy-Milligan will take place to see who will replace injured Junior CB, Dylan Jordan.

The Wildcats are looking to have another good year.  As the goal of making the playoffs is still a high priority on the list, competing in 2A will present its challenges.  The Wildcat Football Team will put forth the effort to compete at a high level and “EMBRACE 2A.”
