First week of season shakes up prep volleyball rankings

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Although there was little change among the No. 1 teams in AL.com’s high school volleyball rankings, the rest of the top 10 in each class changed significantly from the preseason poll.

Class 7A Bob Jones, Class 6A John Carroll, Class 4A Danville, Class 3A Bayside Academy and Class 2A Addison all stayed at No. 1.

Class 5A Faith Academy moved from No. 10 to the top spot while Class 1A Sacred Heart went from unranked to No. 1. AISA Kingwood was previously No. 3.

Faith downed previous No. 1 and Class 5A defending champion St. Paul’s while Sacred Heart took over the top spot from Donoho. Kingwood won the AISA’s season-opening Elite 8 Tournament to take over the top spot from Macon-East.

Class 5A Walker won the Briarwood Serve-Off Tournament and jumped to No. 2 while previously unranked Arab is now No. 4.
