MOBILE, Alabama
 – St. Luke’s has hired George Minoso as its new women’s basketball coach, the school announced in a letter to parents this weekend.

Minoso most recently served as coach at Class 6A Oak Mountain. His Eagles reached the Central Regional this past year. He also has been an assistant coach at Hoover.

During his tenure at Hoover, the Bucs won two state championships, finished as state runner-up twice and made two regional championship game appearances.

“Coach Minoso understands the importance of academics and athletics at St. Luke's and is anxious to get started,” athletic director Tim Becker said. “He will continue our tradition of excellence both in the classroom and on the court."

Minoso will work in the school’s history department.

He replaces Christine Zoghby, who led the Wildcats to the South Regional each of the past two seasons. She resigned to spend more time with her family.

St. Luke’s will move up from Class 1A to Class 2A in the fall.
