The Donoho Falcons remain South Super Regional Champions by defeating St. Luke's (25-22, 17-25, 25-15, 25-23). St. Luke's entered the match looking to avenge their 2012 defeat in the early rounds of the 2012 South Regional Championships and their defeat in the Shrimp Fest Tournament in Gulf Shores a couple of weeks ago. However, Donoho's team unity was too much for St. Luke's to overcome.
Donoho was led by the senior duo of Rylee Segrest and Corey Phillis. Phillis racked up 28 kills, 23 digs, 3 blocks, and 2 aces while Segrest aided with 50 assists, 28 digs, and 2 kills. The entire team united for the victory, and other contributors were: Jordan Ray with 9 kills, 26 digs, and a block, Hannah Christian with 9 kills, 5 digs and 4 blocks, Kayla Wallace with 6 kills, 14 digs, and an ace, Camille Fink with 6 kills and 5 digs. Aiding on defense were Anna Marie Woodfin with 18 digs and Camryn Swain with 8 digs.
In route to the Championship, Donoho defeated Fruitdale (25-14, 25-2, 25-8), Kinston (25-19, 25-14) and 26-24), and Jefferson Christian 25-8, 25-11, 25-13). For the tournament, Corey Phillis had 67 kills, 11 blocks, 45 digs, and 9 aces. Segrest had 155 assists, 57 digs, 2 kills, 3 blocks, and 18 aces.
The Falcons will enter the State Elite 8 with a 38-10 record.
