After going down a set to Murphy in the championship round and being stretched to the limit in the final set, St. Luke's rallied for a 14-25, 25-14, 19-17 victory to win the Back to School Bash tournament in Fairhope.
Ashley Chapman had 12 kills and Elise Polio added 10 more for the Wildcats (11-4). Ansleigh Dailey finished with 28 assists.
The championship game was the fourth of the day for St. Luke's and also a rematch of Friday's tournament opener, which also went three sets before the Wildcats prevailed. In five tournament games, St. Luke's lost only two sets, both to Murphy.
St. Luke's advanced to the championship with a 25-13, 27-25 semifinal win over Gulf Shores. Chapman had 12 kills and eight blocks, Polio had eight kills and Dailey had 27 assists.
Earlier in pool play, the Wildcats downed Saraland 25-18, 25-18. Chapman had 10 kills, Polio notched five aces and four kills and Dailey had 20 assists. St. Luke's began the day by defeating Foley 25-15, 25-7. Chapman had 12 kills for the Wildcats, who host UMS-Wright on Tuesday.
Murphy advanced to the finals by defeating Cottage Hill 25-15, 25-22. In pool play Saturday, the Panthers defeated host Fairhope 25-27, 25-15, 15-5 and Saraland 25-11, 25-19. Murphy opened the tournament Friday by defeating Foley 25-11, 25-19
