MOBILE, Alabama -- The 2012 football season included plenty of highs for teams in Coastal Alabama, with Spanish Fort winning the Class 5A state title and UMS-Wright bringing home the 4A crown.

To cap the season, here's the Press-Register 2012 All-Region Football team:

Coach of the Year: Jack French, Baker – led Baker to first playoff berth since 1990

Offensive Player of the Year: Jason Smith, McGill-Toolen – Accounted for 2,433 total yards and 33 touchdowns in leading McGill to unbeaten regular season

Defensive Player of the Year: Johnny Cook, Spanish Fort – Had seven interceptions, 81 tackles and 21 passes broken up for state champion Toros

FIRST TEAM

Offense

Quarterback – Joel Poe, Spanish Fort – Threw for 3,403 yards and 42 TDS

Running back – Berron Tyson, Baker – Rushed for 1,790 yards and 17 TDs

Running back – George Payne, St. Luke’s – Ran for 2,424 yards and 34 TDs

Running back – Tyler Rogers, Mobile Christian – Gained 2,071 yards and scored 17 TDs

Wide receiver – Blain Crain, Spanish Fort – Caught 55 passes for 868 yards, 15 TDs

Wide receiver – Jarren Johnson, Jackson – Caught 51 passes for 712 yards, 11 TDs

Tight end – Wyndell Archie, Saraland – 31 receptions, 502 yards, 8 TDs

Offensive line – Grant Horst, Spanish Fort – Anchored line that helped team average 39.1 points per game

Offensive line – Josh Casher, St. Paul’s – Four games of 90 percent or better

Offensive line – Wilson Bell, Blount – Alabama-Mississippi selection anchored Blount line

Offensive line – Harrison Louden, McGill-Toolen – Graded 96 percent for season

Offensive line – Barry James, Davidson – Two-year starter at center

Athlete – Nate Andrews, Fairhope – 21 TDs rushing, receiving and throwing

Athlete – Troy Dixon, UMS-Wright – Finished with 2,196 yards rushing, 27 TDs

Place-kicker – Trey Smith, Bayside Academy – Converted 8-of-9 FGs, 7-of-10 successful onsides kicks

Defense

Defensive line – Jeffery Goodwin, Jackson – Anchored Aggies defense

Defensive line – Jared Holloway, St. Paul’s – 58 tackles, 14 sacks, 12 QB pressures

Defensive line – Darius Paige, Foley – 42 tackles, 3 sacks, Alabama- Mississippi selection

Defensive line – Travares Bingham, Williamson – 20 sacks, 20 tackles for losses

Linebacker – Tre Williams, St. Paul’s  -- 103 tackles for top 2014 prospect

Linebacker – DeShaun Davis, Vigor – 14 tackles for loss, 5 caused fumbles

Linebacker – DeMarcus Holcombe, Wash. Co. – 52 tackles, 3 INTs for TDs

Linebacker – Jonathan Walton, Bayside Aca. – 122 tackles, 2 blocked punts

Defensive back – Trey Jenkins, Daphne – 92 tackles, 5 interceptions

Defensive back – Kylen Towner, St. Paul’s – 7 interceptions, 2 for TDs

Defensive back – Philbert Martial, McGill-Toolen – Returned 5 KOs, 1 punt for TDs
